Here We Gather Again...

I went for a Tung Ling gathering today at Midvalley... Chopstick Restaurant. Though not everyone came, at least there were 7 of us. So glad to meet up with them. I was truly blessed the whole time I was there listening to what they shared. From the beginning we met up till the end, we were just sharing about God's goodness, God's blessing, what God has been doing in our lives, their churches and everything about God. Some may think them fanatics but no - they have experienced the miracles that God has done in their lives and they were just giving the glory due His name.

It's been a while since I sat with a group of people who focused so much on God. They really encouraged me. Listening to Aunty Mary sharing about the miracles that God did in her church is awesome. She told us when she got into the plane, she shared with someone, "If in 1 minute the plane crashes, I'm going 'up' and you're doing 'down'. She shared with her about God and before the plane landed, the person accepted Christ. Dunno if I'd ever dare recommed that kind of sharing but... Wow, isn't it awesome how that person came to Christ?

"If the plane crashes...I go up and you go down." What rubbish way of converting someone. What condescension and what arrogance. Instilling fear into people's heart and people converting out of fear...is that something to be proud of? It is like you tell your husband "I love you very much. If you love me and accept me in this and this way, you will be with me forever, if not, well, you will burn in a microwave oven for eternity." What kind of sick love is this?

Well, I’m not sure how direct she was when she was sharing. Maybe cos she knows we’re all ‘sisters’, she just summarized things. When she shared with us, I don't feel there's arrogance in her. But whether her way is right or wrong, at the end the person did accept Christ. She did say something like Jesus spoke more about Hell in the bible than Heaven. Have we made the Gospel too ‘polite’? Why we're so afraid to speak about Hell?

Good discussion. Will talk about it in cell tonight.

If 1 person comes to Christ, doesn't everyone rejoice? If that person in the plane came to Christ, shouldn't we all rejoice? I personally do NOT advocate the "you're going to hell" method -but maybe this sister has a point. Have we become so politically correct that we avoid the subject of hell altogether? I have no answer, but it got me thinking. Jesus did not avoid the issue. If I'm not wrong, He brought it up too. So while we do not play god and say "You're going to hell", I would consider asking someone, "What if hell did exist?" Frightening people about hell is debatable. Sure, the Cross remains the centre of our evangelism. But honestly, everyone should be afraid of hell. And it's up to us to speak the truth.

Dear Reader,

For every 1 that is saved (whatever that means) there will probably be 1 million that go to hell. What is there to rejoice? Indeed, if you do not want to be politically correct, what are you doing to save the 1 million? Shouldnt you be out there on the streets, every single day, preaching the gospel, beseeching everyone you see to be "saved"? Are you? If eternity is so important and hell so fearsome, shouldnt you be selling away your house and car, quit your job and pound the streets preaching? If not, why not? You want your cake and eat it too? You want a good life here on earth while assured of a better hereafter? How greedy. How selfish. So if you are not out there preaching, then you have no right to be in-politically correct. While millions go to roast in hell, you guys write blogs filled with inanities, inconsequential matters, about what you ate, where you went, what you buy..you guys have your nice little cozy gatherings with like minded friends in cozy environment usually with too much food. And you have your nice church camps where you sing songs and hold hands. But they are so removed from reality. Yes, you pray. But that's all you do. Pray and nothing else. Praying is cheap and does not require much efforts. But it does salve your guilt doesnt it? Then again, is there a hell in the first place? Have anyone been there? Seen it? You guys talk as if it is a proven scientific fact that hell exist. Even if it does, tell me, which version of hell is it? The Muslims are convinced to their bones that all non-Muslims will burn in hell. Likewise, the Jews think all others are infidels doomed to gnash their teeth in eternal flames. And of course you Christians are smug to think all non-believers are of the Devil and therefore will toast in hell. There is more. Within each Abrahamaic religion, there are multifarious sects each claiming their God is the truer God, their doctrines the purer ones. A cacophony of opposing views, intrepretations, expositions and each convinced to their bones that they are right. So tell me, whom do I believe? Even if I want to believe in God, which God? Whose God? But then you will appeal to your experience of God. Well, Muslims will swear by the Koran that indeed they have seen God too. Sai Baba believers think he is God personified. Some think Zeus is the almighty. And some even believe there is this Invisible Pink Unicorn who is the Omniscient. So, who is right? You may claim your God changed your live. But adherents of other religions claim the same thing. My view is that all Abrahmaic religions are FEAR based, which is a pathetic way to gain believers. Yes, you do talk about love but please do a survey and ask people to answer honestly. I will bet 9 out of 10 say that they believe because they fear hell. Is this something to be proud about? What kind of God would settle for believers that believe in him becuase of fear. Would you want your spouse or kids to love you out of fear? And what kind of God is this that requires slavish praises and adoration from his believers? Is his ego so small that he requires constant praises? Laughable. Please think through what you believe.
